What Makes Us Heroic?

We’ve known about World of Warcraft’s new class for nearly a year now. We’ve also known that it was billed as WoW’s first “heroic” class, which makes me ask the question; What makes us heroic? I’ve played several MMO’s and have seen new classes introduced. I was one of the first level 65 Beastlords on my old EQ server. When the class was brought out you started at level 1 like every other class. It was a hindrance to start over and try and catch up with my guild, but I eventually did it.

With the latest storm of information, I have yet to see anything that would justify us being labeled as “heroic”, except for the fact that we will start at level 55 and avoid that level grind that other new characters face. Does starting at level 55 make us “heroic”? No, only unless “heroic” means “free pass”. I’ve yet to see anything “overpowering” or “imbalanced” with the Death Knight, and rightfully so. There is no way you can introduce one “heroic” class and let them truely be “heroic” and still maintain game balance. The way I see it, the only way you can have a “hero” class, is to allow every current class the ability to unlock a newer, stronger class. Then you still have balance because everyone can do it and you still get a stronger, “heroic” character.

Is “heroic” just Blizzards fancy way bringing out a new class? What does “heroic” mean to you?

  1. yikes. i came to check out this site for dk info i might have missed. seeing top notch journalism like this reminds me why i stopped coming here.

it’s blizzard’s definition of heroic. not yours. heroic means its relating to a hero character class in the game rather than the standard generic classes (warrior mage priest etc).

  2. ps, just a reminder: you’re playing world of warcraft. not everquest. there really is no point in making allusions to everquest as the games are completely unrelated.

  3. This article is MY opinion, not Blizzard’s, therefore I can define Heroic however I see fit and even ask how others define it. HAve you seen Blizzards official definition of Hero Class? That said my “allusions” to EQ are completely related considering they are both MMORPG’s. I was comparing the release of a new classes to the games. If what you said in your first comment holds true then every class in WoW becomes a hero at 55?

  4. ps, welcome back to the site.

  5. Wow, cant help but to feel confused when a site about DKs has such a depressing feel to it. WotLK hasn’t even been out yet, why don’t we wait and THEN talk how the DKs are awefull (aka. not what you were expecting)or whatever. You curious to know what makes a DK “Heroic” ? Wait till WotLK comes out and youll find out. I hate when people QQ when they have no idea what they are talking about…sigh.

  6. This post wasn’t ment to be a QQ. Nobody is bashing the class, I am probably as excited about it as anyone. And QQing isn’t my thing anyway. The post asked a question. Based off what we know, why ARE we called heroic? Is Blizzards definition of heroic “First new class introduced since release”. I don’t care if they call us “Shit Class” I’ll still be excited, but if you give us a title of “heroic” I think asking what it means is a fair question.

  7. Ok let me rephrase my above post:

“I have yet to see anything that would justify us being labeled as “heroic”” - And you wont until Blizzard decides to release it so lets wait and see.

And what does heroic mean to me? Heroic class to me means a new category of classes. There will be “Normal Classes” and “Heroic Classes”. Will they be overpowered, I hope not.

Imagine heroic classes much like the console games of the past, you unlocked different characters not because they were overpowered but because they were fun looking or just plain different. Thats what I’m expecting from DKs. I Played a warrior, a rogue, a druid and a mage all to 70. I know what managing rage, mana, and energy is like so I’m lookin forward to runes and Runic Power or whatever its called.

Thats what “Heroic” means to me.

  8. That is the type of response I was looking for with the post. This was never ment to be a bitch session. Either way, welcome to the site, hope to see more of you when you make your DK.
