Day 1 WWI Death Knight Recap

I’m going to try and make a list of everything Death Knight related that was discussed during Day 1 of Blizzard’s Worldwide Invitational. Most all of this stuff, in regards to the Death Knight, we already know. But, for S&G’s I want to cover WWI08 anyway.

Stuff from our forums:

  • The current rune graphics are just place holders. The original runes were dropped because when they were too hard to see the progress of the rune cool-up.
  • The unique Death Knight UI is constantly being evolved but seems to have been dropped for a more standard Health Bar/Runic Power Bar, with Runes being displayed beneath that bar.
  • Rune Power usage is still being tweaked. Death Coil changed from using all available Rune Power, to using a set amount; 30 Rune Power was the number thrown around on stage, but nothing is final.
  • Developer Class Panel:

    • Each Talent tree will serve as a tanking tree as well. Developers don’t want one specific “tanking” tree. (WoR)
    • Runes have a seperate 10 second cooldown. (WoR)
    • All Races confirmed to have Death Knights. (WoR)
    • Army of the Dead will make players feel like the Lich King feels when he commands the scourge to attack. (WoR) (no clue what that means)

    Developer Q & A:

    • People playing a Death Knights will see the original voice of their race slightly modified to make it sound more … Death Knight-ish. (MMOC)
    • Tanks will be interchangeable in 5-man dungeons but tanks will have a speciality in 25-man raids. Death Knights will be best against casters and shouldn’t be too far behind on other encounters. (MMOC)

    There are some other Death Knight related articles I’ve seen, I’ll post below. Overall, from a Death Knights perspective, so far WWI 08 has been somewhat disappointing. Granted we have one day left, and I do expect another announcement of some sort. Maybe a release date, or some other nice surprise.

      I watched this panel live. It’s really a cool idea, so even when we are in the clown gear phase and you can’t easily see the difference between a DK and a Warrior, you can at least hear it. Now, if they go with what I’ve been hearing other people ask for, they’ll add a pale skin to all the races as well for DKs.

    3. Did anyone consider how much a Frost DK with some buffs is gonna be OP, just imagin’ Berserking ((WSG buff))+ Hysteria ((New DK blodd specc))+ Freeze + Howling Blast, i’m thinking 13-14k crits :S
