Blizzard Temperary Account Setup Page Cripples New Beta Testers [UPDATED]

Hoping for a beta key? Well, if you haven’t gotten lucky yet, I can tell you first hand that now is NOT the time to start. For two days now, the process of creating a Blizzard Temporary Account has been down and is showing no signs of coming back up.

For those that don’t know, once you receive a beta key there are 4 steps you have to take to get your beta account up and running.

Upgrade your World of Warcraft Account at the beta site. Easy enough, just log into your account and enter the beta key and your account is upgraded and eligible for the beta!
Copy over your 68+ characters. Again, pretty simple…you can copy over up to four (4) characters.

Create a Blizzard temporary account. Here is the problem.
Download the WotLK client. It’s slow, but doable!

My first problem was I got my beta key the day of a beta server maintenance. It was easy to chalk up the delay to that, but once servers came up the frustration got deeper. The technical support forums where flooded with people having the same issues, with the only blue response more of a jab than help:

So, the good news? I got into beta…the bad? all new testers are halted at the moment. Over 30 hours with little to no help.

UPDATED *1615CST** The account creation page is fixed and working now!

Well that was a pointless bit of news i have got to say, i mean what the blue said was kind of useful, there was extended maintenance on the beta server this week, so why was everyone complaining.
I think you were all just getting a little overexcited about getting the beta key and thinking a little irrationally?

He told them creating an account during maintenance was a bad idea and I agreed, but once everything else was operational except this service there was an obvious problem…that went ignored for 30+ hours. that would be like not allowing new account creations for 30 hours…sorta. Granted it’s beta and they don’t even have to offer it, but that doesn’t mean we want to get jerked around. Sorry, having the ability to create beta accounts down for 2 days seemed worthy news to me.

And yes, I was biased cause I wanted in BETA!!!

Im not crying… I just really feel like im missing out on something huge (which i am), like three days in a row i ask a question in forums, BAM a beta key person answers it, one of them two ppl from beta came, and they were all different. And just seeing all of the videos online of DKs pvping/questing or w/e, just seems like a LOT of people got into beta. Not crying, just expressing my feelings of the beta thus so far. Thank you

I would not be surprised if you start seeing news that does not affect you, but points out the fact you’re not in beta more and more. Honestly people who bitch about not being in beta are as bad as people who gloat about being in beta.

I’m not in BETA and frankly I’m not too bothered. Of course if I got the key I’d try it but I won’t cry about it. I see all the news here about what’s happening in beta and they are changing things all the time. I can wait until November or whenever to get the final shipping version. :]
