Refer a Friend Program to Powerlevel Your Death Knight?

I’m sure by now most of you have heard about the new refer-a-friend program that Blizzard recently announced. If you haven’t then here are a few of the details:

  • For every person you refer who upgrades to a retail version of WoW and purchases two months of game time, you will get a free mount for one of your character.
  • Characters on both accounts can summon each other once per hour.
  • While adventuring with your linked friend/family member, you will each gain triple experience.
  • For every two levels the new player earns, the new player can grant one free level-up to a lower-level character played by the veteran player.

It seems like a sweet deal, but honestly with 11 million players, who the hell am I going to refer?

So now the big question is how does this experience boost effect a brand new Death Knight? Could a referrer roll that free EXP down to a newly created DK?

Death Knights can be gifted levels as well up to 60, however, they will still need to satisfy all quest objectives in the starting area before moving out into the world.

So basically you can powerlevel a new Death Knight to 60 before you do the first quest! Start referring!

  1. Are we sure this is possible, My understanding was that the death knight started in an instanced version of Acherus and was unable to leave the various starting instanced versions for the normal version in EPL until after the quests were completed.

  2. did you read the quote? you still have to quest out of ebon hold

  3. I reached level 58 by the time I finished doing the starting Undead quests. From what I can tell, Blizzard purposely is handing out loads of XP so that when a Death Knight finishes the introduction quests they can move to the Outlands. I wouldn’t worry too much about powerleveling to 60 at this point.

  4. “For every two levels the new player earns, the new player can grant one free level-up to a lower-level character played by the veteran player.”

Wouldn’t this mean the linked account would need to hit 59 before it could even lvl a DK? Because if the way its worded means what it looks like then for every 2 lvls that one plays with a linked account the main account can level a character lower level (then that of what leveled two levels).

Now by the time you get your DK out to where you can play with your linked account you’ll be lvl 57 already so wouldn’t that mean that the other account has to level up to 57 to catch up and then has to hit 59 59 before the DK hits 59 to give it a “free” level?

I think its a safe bet thatthis is pretty useless to those wanting to level their DKS.

  5. Doesn’t work for DKs. The triple exp is only granted when you are in a party with your “friend” and are near each other killing things.

So, your friend would have to to work it out somehow that he had a 55 character and was still under the effect of the promotion when wrath came out. I think the promotion only is in effect for 30 days though.

  6. Holy crap, before the one month of free game time for you I thought was kinda gay. Now… jesus I wanna refer!!

  7. I myself am very interested in doing this. If anybody is currently in need of a new account I would be more than happy to refer you. My main character’s name in-game is Therdra, and my alt that I play the most is Therbank, so send me a message in-game. Even if you have a friend that is needing a referral I would be more than happy to send one their way. Don’t forget, both of us will benefit from this. So, send me a message in-game if you would like me to refer you. Thanks!

  8. Since accounts will only be linked for 90 days, I wonder whether this bonus will expire after the link is gone.

  9. From the Blizzard website - Recruit a Friend FAQ:

“Yes. The recruit may not grant a level to a character that is equal to or higher than the current level of the character he or she is playing.”

So, your friend will have to be 55 or over for this to work for the DK. I think this limits the usefulness of this.

  10. 55? more like 57 seeing as most DKs don’t get out of the DK starting area till atleat 57 and its not like anyone else can quest there seeing as its quest “instances” that only DKs play in before they venture out into the world… so not only would they have to be 57 when you get your DK out in playable area but they would have to hit 59 before your DK hit 59. Then it would have to level atleast 2 times before you level 2 times since it would bring you up to level with it if it hit 59 when you hit 58 cause you gain a lvl free and now both of you are 59…

so this does not help DKs level one little bit since by the time you level a “trail” that high (which btw is imposible it caps at like 20, but even if it where not…)you could have just as easily leveled yourself from 55 to mid 70s lets say 75… since it sounds like 60-70 is speeding up much like the 1-60 was speed up in patch 2.3 20 levels from 55 to 75 would probably take (if not shorter) about the same amount of time as 1-57.

Point is, if your leveling a trail to help level your DK your just waisting more time then what you “save”.

  11. What will need to be done, is to refer a trial account. On that account, you will have purchase both WoW classic, and TBC full versions, and pay for 2 months of game time. This will cost you about $70. Also you will have to level a character up to atleast 65. You will have to level up to 65 within 3 months. You will also have to time your refer a friend within 3 months of the WoTLK expansion. Once you do this, you will have “credit” to give your Death Knight 5 levels.

This will start him at 60 instead of 55. Yes, the quests in Ebon Hold get you to 57/58 usually, but this will give you a jumpstart. The quests will still give experience @ 60 to get out of Ebon Hold.

This is going to be the way someone becomes the first 80 as a Death Knight. I can guarantee there are people out there hard core enough to want to have the first Death Knight that plan on doing this.

  12. Yeah, that’s what I wanted to do. Level up an alt for a friend so that I could gain a head start. the difference between lvl 55 and 60 might not be huge, but it’s stll something. And some of us are aiming for first death knight to 80.

Too bad that I live in Denmark, and blizzard fucked up by making the “30 days free game time”, so the offer is not available in my country. Gee thanks Blizzard. I know for a fact that someone else on my realm is as “hardcore” as I am in getting to 80 on his DK. And seeing as he’s swedish, he will be able to do this recruit-a-friend-thing. Me not having that option stinks. Suck fali

  13. So, given I’m looking at getting a second account anyway for more characters. Would that mean I can refer myself and transfer one of my 70’s over for instant levelling? (planned to transfer 1 anyway from a different server to my main - hence the needed character limit)

  14. Nope.. I was told that it works like the achivements sort of. For every two levels that new character on that new account gains, you “unlock” a level that you can give to the bloke who refered you.

  15. As the OP who asked this question on the wow forums, the feedback from the thread has me rethinking this strategy - namely, you can not gift levels to characters outside the r-a-f characters vicinity - so, you can not gift until after ebon hold - and then, only 2-3 levels to get to 60.

Now, the r-a-f promotion does lend to even faster way to attain levels for a deathknight; but in sake of the race to 80, I’ll leave it at that.

  17. Seems like a stupid question, but best to ask.

Would the tripple xp work up until 70 (Or even 80) with a Death Knight?
Just me and my friand plan on him referring me, i transfer a char to the new account, both roll Death Knights. Then burn through outlands probably by the time Zangarmaarsh is done.

  18. no, the exp bonus ends lvl 60

  19. Do all deathknights start out in the same instance or are you in a seperate one by your self
