Apparently when the servers came down for maintenance today the hamsters decided to chew through the wires headed to the mail server. Here’s a blue recap of todays maintenance madness. I’m at work so I have no clue if the servers are back or if so what the in-game mail from Blizzard said.

Update 5:45 PM – The servers are currently being brought back online and should be playable by approximately 6:00PM PST. Additionally, information will be sent shortly to all characters through the in-game mail system. This message will provide further details concerning today’s mail issue.

We are continuing to investigate the issues affecting players’ ability to access their mail in order to resolve the situation. We are actively working to provide a specific ETA and we will provide another update within the next 2 hours. Thank you for your patience.

Before I even published this post, Zaryhm just updated the status of the servers and in-game mail:

Zarhym
We wanted to inform our players regarding today’s extended maintenance. We experienced an error that resulted in players being unable to retrieve in-game mail from the last 15 days. Once the error was discovered, we brought down the realms immediately and began working to address this problem, and have been doing so for the duration of the day. Our decision was to enable players to continue playing World of Warcraft before the opening of Wrath of the Lich King. Work would continue on addressing issues with the in-game mail while the realms were up. This is the plan that is currently in motion.

The process from this point forward will be twofold:

1. All items that were in a mail will be sent to characters in one or more messages depending on the amount of items the character had in the mail system.
2. Gold from auction house sales or sent through mail will be sent in a separate mail.

We are working to resolve this issue, and we will keep our players informed throughout this process. In the meantime, please do not create an in-game ticket or contact phone support for this issue – multiple mails will be sent returning your items and gold automatically. We greatly appreciate your patience during this time.

Another weird blue post today stated that WotLK content would be up and available at 2100 PST (9 P.M.). You can also download the client now, and from other posts over at Wowinsider it’s known that you can also buy the game early. It’s also known that you can upgrade you account as well.

The expansion content will be fully accessible by 9 pm pacific time tomorrow night.

So, if I haven’t made a mess of this, you can:

Upgrade your account.
Download the client.
Get your hands on a early game release for the key code.
Wait till 2100 PST and play WotLK.

Lets not forget that since they have been on line some servers are encountering free season 2 gear and Free hunters weapon. The S2 gear that is free on my server is the Priest warlock and Shammy.

Ya its the same on Velen so i assume all servers are having the same issue. Most likely a roll back will happen pissing off 90% of the locks and priests on all servers.

Well the “free” epics are getting deleted now with an emergancy downtime. Hopefully non of you sold your old gear when getting those free PvP epics.
