Ulduar easy?

Gravity March 12 2009 11:51 am 3 Comments

Over the last two weeks, we’ve seen so much on the PTR.

We’ve also had Ulduar bosses on scheduled tests, and… they were beaten. So in one evening or less, the bosses died.

As an outcome, World of Raids now have an Ulduar guide including loot and abilitites which is great content.

This is the new raid Blizzard had hoped would be challenging. Certainly, boss tuning is not completed – that is the point of testing in the first place – but it does raise questions. From launch in November until now we’ve had exactly four months and for some guilds the only remaining challenge is Sarth3D. I’m in a fairly casual guild and we’re now trying Sarth1D, having done all the ‘normal mode’ 25-man raids.

Ulduar will have 10-man and 25-man versions, and hard-mode ‘achievement’ styles for each too. So how long before all the 25-man bosses are killed on live? Surely at most two weeks from 3.1 going live, since on PTR one new boss could be killed in an evening.

Or will Blizzard impress us by ratcheting up the difficulty with their many levers, and make the Live experience really quite challenging?

Kenzi’s been crit for 9000 by work but survived like this DK tank. He’ll be back to blogging soon.

Anyone that claims at “Ulduar = Easy” when live hits needs a serious smack of reality. There’s a reason that its called a TEST realm. Yes, the bosses went down in one evening, SO WHAT?! This has NO BEARING on what we will be facing live. That’s the point of testing. With the data that they get, they could very well implement new abilities, ramp up the HP or do something else that will add more challenge to the fights.

Yes, Wrath up to this point has been easy. I’d like to think of it as a content reset. TBC was a gear reset, WOTLK is a content reset so to speak. It seriously pisses me off when I hear people say “Blizzard will not do anything differently with Ulduar, it’ll be lolz ezmode”. Ulduar isn’t even near completion yet. It’ll be at least a couple of months before we even see an announcement about Uludar being ready to go to live.

SO STOP WORRYING ABOUT ULDUAR BEING EASY MODE, BECAUSE IT WON’T BE!

It’ll have the challenge that everyone is looking for. I know people love to gripe and whine at the first moment of news that doesn’t please them. To them I say, get a grip on reality and don’t go stark raving mad over one little piece of info that you don’t like seeing. 50% of the WoW community is based around this jump to conclusion ideal. To them I say STOP IT! Calm down, enjoy the game that you have now, observe the changes, then when things go live, and if you don’t like what you have when things go live, THEN GO STARK RAVING MAD!

Anyways, I’ve digressed. I’m still very hopeful that Ulduar will live up to the hype that Blizzard is giving it.

If you haven’t noticed the switch Blizz has started catering to the masses.

Follow the time line its not hard

MC- Nax 40 only about 3-5 % of players completed these instance within 6 months of release , more completed them as new talents were released prior to TBC

Bosses were made impossible in order to stop guilds from killing the C thun is a good example and guilds still killed him once they were slightly tweaeked

Blizz catering to the masses in pre BC .05 tier sets were introduced

In TBC they didn’t make bosses easier till months after they were released and attunements were lifted. They did start the welfare epics around season one, badge gear it was well received people who couldn’t do kara could get enough badges to skip it.

WOTLK – cutting edge guilds cleared nax leveling to 80 within one week of launch

Pug 25 man naxs started within 3 weeks of launch clearing easy wings

You cant inspect a lv 80 after 3 months from launch and seeing him at least in half epics or better. Id say at least 75 % of the pop has stepped foot in Nax and killed something.

You’re delusional if you think cutting edge guilds wont have this place cleared by a weeks end.

The only way they could slow progress down is to

1 Increase the amount of trash and trash difficulty.

2 Add Resistance fights (Mother Shaz ) ? Im sure it will be frost

3 Add attunement unlocks for wings or certain bosses ( Ie night bane )

4 increase difficulty of and random unscripted events to the point where players get frustrated . Zomg you mean we can’t one shot this boss has become the battle cry of the masses. People who never really raided don’t have a concept of wiping all night or for 3 -5 days of wiping to learn a boss . If you Did Vash or KT within first 3 months it took guilds a solid week to learn those fights.

I don’t think 4 will happen for more then 1 or 2 bosses

Its much more profitable to keep the 70 % happy over the top 5%

Ill bet its cleared in a one week raid cycle unless there is a crazy resist even then i imagine top guilds will have the geared farmed before launch.
