Death Strike Ner…er Hot Fixed
Ghostcrawler posted yesterday that Death Strike received a recent “hot fix” that lowered it’s healing ability yet again. I’m really not that much worried about it because honestly who used it anyway? Like he says in the post, it’s situational. Do you tanks feel the same? DPSers?
GhostcrawlerWe hotfixed a change to the amount of healing provided by Death Strike.
Originally, this ability was something you would use only situationally to heal yourself at a cost of damage. Since then we have redesigned the death knight class sufficiently to where Death Strike was a major rotational ability for Blood. Given how much the attack is hitting for, we think the amount of healing it provided was too much.
Healing still scales based on diseases and the damage is unchanged. Blood retains its other tools to heal.

Honestly, I use it in my dps rotation now as blood. It hits harder for me than Oblit, so the healing nerf is understandable.
i’ve always had a Death strike spec for pvp, but now in 3.1 i was getting 17k heals from it ( only unusual buffs i had were Hysteria and Vampiric Blood ) so yeah the nerf is understandable.
But i do think they nerfed it way too hard, the max heal i can get from the hotfixed death strike is 2.5k, and that is on a lvl 60 training dummy. In pvp the top you will be seeing is around 2k. major nerf if you ask me.
The DK self healing was the only way I could compete with healer classes (pvp). I simply just had to grind them down. I am a very casual player and pretty much just pvp in the BGs so I really don’t care that much but this seemed a bit extreme.
It removed out soloing ability.
I loved being able to don my tanking set and go solo a BC heroic (as unholy).
The occasional deathstrike thrown in would net me a 5k heal (on a crit) hich kept me topped up.
Just noticed then that the biggest heal i could get was 1200 on a crit.
Which is just…. well useless.
If a ret or prot pally can still use a fully fledged healing spell to top themselves up… why cant a dk have a little selfheal.

A nerf’s a nerf. In all honesty the change does not bother me. I can still solo what I want, never used death strike much anyways. In pvp, sure it’s a hassle, but now it also seems that I am harder to kill. Doing dailies? I run through mobs so quick and my health bar never get’s below 75% on aoe pulls. Hell, they’re all dead by then. Seems like they increased our damage, or so it seems, and nerfed death strike. Oh well, whatever.
I been blood the whole time and this seriously gets on my nerves >:(((((
I wonder why they even made a hero class if they plan on nerfing it down to a regular class. It seems ecery time we get something to buff our DPS they come along and nerf it. Enough is Enough Blizzard either get rid of DK’s or leave us the hell alone!
I wish I had done more soloing before the nerf. I was farming the Tiger boss in ZG and running low level friends through Onyxia, and other fun old world stuff like that. Now that the healing is next to none, I can’t solo very many things as well. Curses…. I won’t be able to catch up to soloing Doomwalker like that one Draenei DK I saw. ><
Actually, I don’t see this as such a nerf, rather than a change in mechanics.. As an unholy death knight atm, with all diseases up I heal 15% of my HP per DS, no matter what. That means, if I swap to tanking gear and go frost presence, my survivability will go considerably up, and the raw healing I get will be higher (5k instead of 3k)
I’m able to solo even harder things than I could before, just that I have to wear my tanking gear to do it ;)
