Your spec in 3.22
PTR 3.22 for DPS and Tanks bears some good news.
Tanks can now consider unholy and frost as proper equals to blood tanks. Unbreakable Armour being one minute and buffed to +armour again makes it mathematically similar to the damage reduction of bone shield. I expect UA duration to be put to 15s down from current PTR 20 seconds to balance it out, sine Bone Shield is now 3 charges (+1 from glyph) on PTR and Vampiric Blood is 10s (+5s from glyph).
I did some analysis on Unholy tank builds in 3.22 with a simulator to check its TPS, plus dual-wield tanking and more.
2FPS agrees.

DPS DKs can choose scourge strike deep unholy now. Unholy obliterate has been nerfed out of usefulness. The contender spec for unholy dps will look like this. The Elitist Jerks DPS thread for unholy has a great OP.
Otherwise, blood and frost dps aren’t much changed.
PvP: Blood’s loss of an overpowered cleave will possibly influence arena comps, as is having 1 min bone shield a boon for arena. Remember ghoul stun has been nerfed too. The rune strike buff will help frost DW too.

umm, when was frost unequal? the most important tanking talents are in that tree.
Do you honestly think that this slight cooldown adjustment, frost Runestrike buff and +crit on SS will make frost and unholy specs equal to blood in therms of tanking you must be dumb or play different game. Unholy will still lack threat and physical survivability and frost is unlike to lose its underpowered single target threat. For tanking its still blood.
@ Mightylink, Frost on Live has the weakest tank cooldown. It’s mostly useless. It doesn’t have the most important tanking talents, only has Imp Icy Touch (mandatory) in tier 1. On PTR, Frost’s buffed UA tank cooldown greatly helps.
@Samochdzik, you’re a very blinkered troll. 1) you’re wrong on most points 2) you’re offensive right off the bat. “Slight” cooldown adjustment? 2 min to 1 min is massive. Unholy has less threat, but does not ‘lack’ it. Frost does not have a problem with ST threat either. You cannot generalise that blood is the absolute #1 tank spec now, sure its better, but there are degrees to this game. When you get out of primary school you might understand.
Thanks for the nod first of all!
In response to some of the comments posted so far, the 3.2.2 changes really do improve the situation for Unholy and Frost tanking quite a bit. The cooldown changes are great, particularly for Unholy.
Sure, there are still issues but these changes are very welcome and appreciated and will give more people more of a choice when it comes to their individual tanking needs. I’m looking forward to more changes in the future.

WRYYY I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD
WTF!! there is nothing posted about Heart Strike getting nerfed with half damage to second target….Blood DPS is now down a bit… GRRR
Let There Be BLOOD, I dont wanna respec..
Blood for DPS and Tanking imo
Only multiple target damage is reduced for blood. Single target, it’s fine.
I have frost tanked from the start, and as i made a post the other day with my experiences as a frost tank and dps. I too was shot down in my efferts to be helpful, by the lack of any civility, in the forums. Either way i was very upset by the nurfs to frost tanking, but have stuck it out. All i hear about is Dk’s not being able to hold threat as blood tanks. All I know is I am frost and I have no problems generating single and AOE threat.
The Trick to Frost AOE Tanking is this, keep you rotation simple. Howling Blast is your big aoe threat generater, get back to it fast and often.
This apparently sounds insane to most death knights, this works for Frost DPS and Tanking. I know, all i ask it that you try it before you write nasty things on the forum.
Glyph for Howling Blast to put Frost Fever on everything in its radious (10 yds); and i personally use Death and Decay, Howling Blast, Blood Boil, Blood Boil, Death Strike/Obliterate with and Rune Stike and Frost Stike as they come up. On Single targets trade Blood Boil for Blood Strike.
This rotation all your runes to cooldown and you are almost always striking or casting, but again this is just for Frost. As frost dps I saw my dps go from struggling to get to 3k to pumping out 4k – more with 25 man raid buffs and mob size.
maybe the heart strike nerf wasnt mentioned because its nonexistent in boss fights? lawlz why do you need 100% damage to a second target when your only hitting a single target anyways?
I find both blood and frost good for tanking blood beter for single target and the ability to self heal and fros in my eyes is best over all for AOE threat also works well for single target just the lack of self healing that puts more strain on healers.
i no nothing of unholy so i say nbothing about it all and all i would say to each their own
graet site guys keep up the good work!
