GDKP and You (The other way to get loot)
Greetings community, today we are going to talk about something that is becoming popular on the American Servers. The GDKP System. Gold DKP have been around for a year or so ago on Asian servers. American servers are starting to catch wind of this and starting to do the same. I know some of you heard about this and some not. There have been some different forms of this you have heard about it or done it at some point. One of the most famous forms was the Amani War Bear runs most guilds were selling at the end of the expanison. I am going to break down the facts and show everyone how it works.
What is GDKP?
Gold DKP is where you are in a raid and an item drops you wish to have. Instead of using DKP or other methods of getting this item, you spend gold. The Highest bidder will get the item and the money goes to a “Pot”. The “Pot” grows bigger and bigger until the raid is called or when the final boss dies. Everyone gets a evenly fair share of the pot.

Same Rules apply right?
Wrong. There is no Mainspec > Offspec > AH money > Alt. The highest bidder gets the item for whatever reason he wants it. Example: Lil Timmy’s Peeshooter drops and its a huge upgrade for Hunter A. I think to myself that my alt hunter could really use that or I could make some money off of it on the AH. Hunter A bids 2g and I bid 5g. Closing goes out and I get the item. The 5g is now in the pot. More items are up for bids.
What can you bid on?
Everything! Patterns, weapons, armor, orbs, your mom famous cooking, etc. Anything that drops from that boss is a bid item. Bid smart and bring money!
What kind of Instances can we use GDKP?
You could use it everywhere but ToC is the best one. No trash and its a short instance.
What makes a great GDKP run?
A great raid leader and some people who have cleared the instance. It’s important to have a great raid leader and the run go smooth. PUGs are known for people not wanting to stay if the raid is wiping all the time. The people who have been in there and have done the instance will bring alot to the raid. You will feel like your not wasting your time in there and feeling like you should of watched NCIS.
How big can the “Pot” really get?
As big as it can! Here is a exmaple of what my friend’s server got the other night. A great trinket dropped “Death’s Choice” and the opening bid was 5k gold. That’s 200g per person(25 members in a raid), just for one item. The closing bid was around 12k gold. That same run a “Dual-blade Butcher” dropped as well. 8k gold was the closing bid on it. Two items went for 20k gold and thats almost 1k per person for just 2 items. Its a decent way to make money and get some items as well.
I dont like spending gold for items.
Don’t go, BUT look at it this way. Let’s say your in a high-end raid guild and use a DKP system. The trinket “Death’s Choice” drops and you no where near the top of the list. We both know that someone, but you is getting the item. Next week you have to go AFK for some RL issue and cant not make it to the raid. You hear about a GDKP run that a guild who like and dont mind running is hosting. You get in there and the trinket drops again. You bid out 5k gold and win the item. Ask yourself, “Was it worth it?” Despite may never getting the item in your guild and you got it for 5k gold from a GDKP. Now when you go with your guild, you don’t have to worry about it and use your points for other things.
Another way to look it at is gearing a alt or making some money on the AH. A ToC Pattern goes for around 3-6k gold on my server. Now if you pay 1k gold for it in a GDKP run and turn around and sell it for 5k gold. MONEY IN THE BANK!
The best way to look at it is something for casual who can’t raid or just farms all day. It’s a chance for people to get some loot and it’s a decent payoff for the hours you put in the game. Spending gold may not be the best idea, but it’s a way to get excited about loot.
Any more information on this?
EJ has a great post about this.
Who is Draxxiss?
I am a unholy Deathknight for EFH (Exiled From Hell). We raid mornings and are currently working on 25 man Anub (Heroic). I read a lot about my class and loving coming here to see what other Dks are doing. I been playing since release. Outside of WoW, I am a 25 year old who works at night as a Bulk Tank Loader. I am currently married right now, but once I up my life insurance since we bought a house, I am sure I may not be around. j/k Feel free to ask me questions, ask for certain posts, and just chat with me.
