Is it me? Or is it my guildies?

When I started “Random Guild” it was a spur of the moment idea due to me and my friend wanting a guild bank to make it easier to share items and also to be able to design our own Tabard.
Two years down the line we had gone from a guild of 2 to 200+ members. This brought with it more bank tabs, more items being deposited but also more hassles.
I try to keep things very casual as I am a casual gamer who will either only log on during special weeks like “Hallows End” or be online every day for a month at a time. I think this has a direct result on the kind of guild member I get joining the guild.

At peek influx the guild had about 15 level 80 members, easily enough to start 10 men raiding, if only they were all on at the same time. The main problem with casual gaming is that either you are offline when you’re needed or vice versa. I tried to arrange dates for raids, giving plenty of time for members to see the dates and try to attend, but still some failed due to lack of attendance.
Another problem you face as a casual gamer is that you don’t quite understand the game as fully as a hardcore player, you may not have as good gear or know vital strategies and if you dare ask you risk facing a wall of NOOB comebacks. Some players see a guildmaster as a all knowing oracle of WOW, which I am sure for some guilds is true, for me I will always try my best to help a guild member with specs, gear and quests and I can’t answer there is always WOW Wikki :D

Being a casual guild normally pigeon holes your guild as a “levelling” guild, which is ok I guess, I like to help lower levels with boosts (it’s a great ego boost to single pull the whole of an instance while they watch in awe) but you will then see your more hardcore players leaving to join “raid” guilds, I can’t say I blame them, some people want a more hardcore gaming experience where they have to be on every day for at least 5-6 hours, I would rather keep the fun in the game or I may start feeling like I am paying for more stress ?

Maybe one day I will want to get more from the game or feel I am missing something by not getting to raid as much as others but with the intro of the TOC 5 man with its epic drops and the improvements in looking for group coming next year maybe it will take the pressure off guilds to fit into a set type and people will just group up as and when needed (in a perfect world)
Till then keep it casual :)

Dual Spec Deathknight (Blood DPS/Frost Tank) . I’ve been playing since 2007, few months before WOTLK release. I am 28 and getting closer to 29 which is way to close to the dreaded 30! Played xbox 360 until it recently died on me, now am playing PS3 (Modern Warfare 2 next week!!) as well as any command and conquer style games on p.c.

Constructive feedback always welcomed – Jam@randomgenius.co.uk
