3.2 Tank health calculation tool can be found: here

I posted this in a previous thread but it's something I had been wanting to work on with more specific numbers and felt it could use it's own thread. Specifically how the different classes are going to scale in terms of health.

So I crunched some numbers and the hit to VoTW isn't as bad as I thought. The real pain is actually coming from the Frost Presence changes.

My base stam is 2420.

VoTW differences
Bonus health from VoTW on 3.1 (Live) is 1597.
Bonus health from VoTW on 3.2 (PTR) is 769. (difference of 828)
While someone with my stamina would have received 1597 additional health, they are now receiving 769 additional health. An additional 769 health still is a nice bonus.

Frost Presence differences
Difference between 3.1 (Live) and 3.2 (PTR) without VoTW is 1762. Meaning, the Frost Presence reduction hurt a great deal more then the 6% to 3% VoTW change did.

Looking forward
Now these numbers don't mean nearly as much as what our numbers will look like after we are in 3.2 (Tier9) gear. Completely roughing it, I came up that we would receive an additional 225 stam from gear, and that is on the low side. (+15 stam per slot for 13 slots plus 30 stam from upgrading to epic gems)

Giving the above example we would have a total of 2645 stam and receive a 841 VoTW health bonus. This would put me at 36,819. My current LIVE 3.1 health is 36,952 with VoTW.

Rough Summary
So with VoTW and Tier9 gear we will be returning roughly to our previous 3.1 live VoTW/FP health. Most likely Tier9 will receive more additional stam then that but it was a rough number looking at whats already available.

It looks like Warrior have the exact same formula as us now when it comes to health without VoTW. Paladin's scale better with 8% stam bonus to our 6%.

Checking my math on the bears but it's base stamina * Survival of the fittest bonus * bear form bonus? The bear form bonus applies to total stamina not just stamina on gear correct?

Yea, its total stamina, but you also need to keep in mind that there really isn't any leather geared designed for tanking and therefore has lower stamina when compared to plate gear.

Paladins have 14% not 8% on the PTR (8% from sacred duty + 6% from combat expertise)

Warriors will always have commanding shout up (i know it would effect us too in a raid but for a direct comp you should include it for them)

Dont forget the 2% stam on rune of the stoneskin gargoyle

dunno if any of that helps but meh, im bored

1) Paladins start at a lower base health than warriors/DKs, so therefore they have higher scaling on stamina to balance it out...

2) Isn't the pally stamina bonuses multiplicative, since they come from 2 different talents? Just like damage reduction from different sources?

Raiding is hard. Sometimes there is fire.
You have to not be in the fire.

Should be, in theory, multiplicative like you said. I've not read maintankadin forums for a long, long time tho to verify.

Thanks guys, I'll update Paladin info soon. All calculations are done without any buffs so leaving CS and SSG out, but I could add an additional entry for including it. I'm working on a site that'll auto calc all of this for us.

Updated paladin health to 14% multiplicative. Wow...if this is correct the paladin health gap will just continue to outscale us...

No surprise there..
I hope, but don't bet, they'll lose the health on Combat Expertise.. Can't really expect them to rip it off Sacred Duty. After all, they DO have less base health, the 2% stamina would be to make up for that.

They'll still scale better, but it wouldn't be that much.

EDIT: Disregard that.. We also gain an additional 2% stamina with stoneskin gargoyle.. So we'll actually end up scaling better..

This and our other discussions have made me go back to Frost tanking, so far, I still feel its a great fun and effective spec, and when 3.2 comes I won't feel like I'm losing that much stam anymore.

I've gone the opposite way Gravity, and am trying to get as much use out of my uber health blood spec while I still can. Touting 44k buffed compared to the warriors 36k makes me feel like a big man  rolleyes.

It will be a tough decision come 3.2 but I'm thinking of sticking to blood, solely for VB and Deathstrike which I believe help a lot on Ulduar bosses, providing just that extra buffer of healing before the pally's Holy Light hits.

I'll stay Unholy because it suits my playstyle better and BA and additional magic dmg reduction is sweet.

I've created a tool to help us predict/calculate the health changes we will be facing when 3.2 roles out. You can enter in your base stamina, bonus stamina, extra talents and buffs to see what your 3.2 health is going to look like compared to your 3.1 health as well as stacked against other tanks with the same stamina.

I'll be adding the armor changes soon as well. Important things to remember is Druids don't typically have as much stamina as the other plate wearers.

If anyone has any requests for additions to the tool let me know.
