Why don't we use these pvp shoulder enchants more commonly?

It's not like 20 dodge & 15 def on shoulders (exalted hodir) makes a unique difference; they're about 0.5% avoidance after-DR (in my gear). Presume you don't need the def for 540. Understood resilience is useless in PvE. But 30 stam is about 330 health, or equal to 960 EH in my gear (blood tank), which will continue to scale up as I get more +armour items. There aren't that many places you can put stamina.

Here's the tankspot thread on the topic.

Thoughts?

I am currently using the Hodir enchant since we can now take several hits in ICC without being killed.

Aye, I just spec'd into Blood (now I've got a lovely big-ass two-hander, it felt right) so am going to bias stam.

When I tanked as blood I used the pvp chant, as you've already identified it provides significant EH to a blood tank.

I currently use the pvp enchant because I'm a +STA whore.  Always feel like I'm playing HP-catchup with Paladins.

Before 3.1, I was frost and I used the Hodir one.
Since 3.1, I'm blood and have the PvP one.

I'm a Blood Tank. I'm a Stam Whore. Just recently upgraded to this.

Scribes have http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=61119 and don't have other specific buff nor a pvp shoulder inscription.

It'll still depend on how much stamina / avoidance you want.

Hmmm, my question was poorly put.

It was more like "people use the PvP because Hodir's doesn't provide much dodge post-DR, but how is the Scribe's dodge positioned compared to those ?"

Here is what I get with my actual gear and with raid buffs:
*Greater Inscription of the Pinnacle gives me 0.467% of avoidance.
*Master's Inscription of the Pinnacle gives me 1.001% of avoidance.
*Greater Inscription of the Gladiator gives me 375 hp.

If we make a parallel with gemming strategies, here is what we get: we choose to go to dodge/stam or def/stam if socket bonus is 9 stam (per non-blue gems) or better, which means that we choose (at worse) 10 dodge (or def) over 6 stamina.

Greater Inscription of the Gladiator is 30 stamina, so to conclude with the gemming strategies parallel, it's 5*6 stamina. Dodge + def from Master's Inscription of the Pinnacle is over 5*10, so I will tend so say that Master's Inscription of the Pinnacle is better than Greater Inscription of the Gladiator.

Now, it completly depends on what you prefer (RNG or EH), your actual gear, your spec, your play-style, etc...

I've used a kind of rule of thumb by taking the avoidance percentage, finding what it is of my health (ie. 0.5% avoidance => 0.5% of my 36K health => 180 hp) and wanting the HP gain I get from the alternative to be about twice or more (ie. the PvP shoulders are 330 hp).

By this rationale, the inscribers' version at 1% would be worth using.

btw, Deadpriest, how can you get 375 hp from the PvP shoulders? frost pres + Vo3W + gargoyle = 11% stamina

I have taken into account Blessing of Kings (+10%) and Improved Mark of the Wild (+2%) which leads to 24.95%.

Ah OK, raid buffed.
Makes sense, and is probably a more realistic measure (since dodge rating doesn't get buffed by BoK).
